Passing the Mic

I'd like to share a blog post with you written by Bethany Joy Galeotti. You may know her from One Tree Hill, Guiding Light, or her band, Enation. She's a normal wife/mother/woman/friend that writes about recipes, good books, clothing, crafts, etc. But she also writes about very important and deep subjects. Her most recent post discusses helping PEOPLE rather than trying to get the planet in proper working order. I never realized how consuming it is to be all green, all the time, while unknowingly neglecting living, breathing, people. I agree with her views that even though the earth is very important, we, as a whole population have to focus more on saving the human race before we should spend all of our time and money saving the planet. Don't get me wrong, I still believe in recycling, conserving water, and using a lot less plastic, but I now see that I should devote just as much, or even more time to helping and bring attention to people in peril.

I personally think the reason why so many have jumped on the Green wagon is well, one, because most people are followers. It usually only takes a small group to convince everyone else that it's the right thing to be doing at the moment. For example, (I apologize, it's the only thing I can think of) a man is accused of some horrendous crime and everyone thinks he's innocent because they've known him forever. Enter that one person who either doesn't know the guy, or doesn't like him. He starts talking bad and turning the crowd against him, and pretty soon, the accused is facing an angry mob. People don't want to be the only one on the opposite end of the table, so they all go to same side, even if they don't know why, or even agree. That's reason one. Reason number two, is because, (remember, this is just my theory) a lot of people, including myself, don't know how to get involved with 'people saving' efforts. Really, the only thing I can think of is donating money. I don't know about you, but I don't have much extra to give away. With being green, you don't have to be in an organization, or donate anything. You just have to throw stuff in the blue bin. I think more people would get involved with more dire situations if they knew how. BJG is a part of Tread On Trafficking, which is a great way to get started, so seriously. Go check her blog out. Here's the link to her last post. From there you can take a look at the rest of her entries.
